YZU & Me
I
am very pleased to know that my alma mater Yangzhou University is celebrating
its 120 anniversary. It is really amazing, pleasant, exciting and marvellous
moment that is source of motivation for all of us who stayed in Yangzhou
University as its proud student.
Still
I remember my first day when I reached Yangzhou University and beautiful
fields, buildings and landscape of Yangzijin Campus fascinated me. I was so
much emotional and overwhelmed. It was a great day of my life. I cannot forget
the great and pleasant feelings of that day. For first year, I studied Chinese
language and became familiar with so many friends from different countries.
They never let me feel alone. They were so homely and I felt that I am in my
home. Our Chinese teachers taught us with devotion and dedication and
eventually at the end of our Chinese course we were able to speak Chinese
language. It was level four Chinese language which helped a lot to make Chinese
friends. Before, I used to feel hesitation while interacting with Chinese
friends. They had problems with English to speak and I had problems with
Chinese language to speak, I failed to communicate with Chinese friends easily
but after completion of one year Chinese course I was quite able to interact
with Chinese friends.
I
stayed in Yangzhou University for two years and four months. I spent one year
for Chinese language, one year for studying major subjects and other four
months I did a research on Hu sheep in Chao Qiao village, Nantong. During this
stay, my Chinese language helped me a lot to interact with local Chinese
people. Many times, it happened that some people thought that I am a Chinese
too because of my Chinese language skill and little bit matching of my facial
appearance with Chinese people. During this research period, I enjoyed a lot as
well I learnt a lot. I had such kind of peace in my mind, I started feeling
that I am a local person not a foreigner.
During
the stay of two years and four months in Yangzhou University, I visited
different historical places of Yangzhou City like Yangzhou Museum, He Garden,
Ge Garden, Dongguan Street, Tomb of Buhauddin, Slender West Lake, Marcopolo
Museum, Ye Chun Garden, Daming Temple, Flat Hills Hall and WenChang Ge. During
this stay, I learnt a lot about my professional journey and also I observed
Chinese society very close. I observed Chinese culture and rituals. I already
had keen interest in culture exchange activities so I participated in different
activities like Chinese New Year Festival, Lantern Festival, Yangzhou Opera,
Stage Performances singing Chinese poem, Dough Modelling, Fire Drill Activity,
Making Zongzi at Dragon Boat Festival and so many others. I compiled all my
splendid memories and published them as a book with the title “My 793 days in
Yangzhou”. I celebrated one Spring Festival with my Chinese friend at his home
in Yancheng.
Yangzhou
University has imparted beautiful memories to me and has added beautiful
colours in my life. I came home before Covid outbreak but still could not
return to China. I am counting every single minute to go back to complete my
studies and add more beautiful memories.
I
congratulate to every person linked with Yangzhou University and Yangzhou on
the onset of 120th anniversary from core of my heart. Yangzhou
University is an ocean of knowledge which is brightening future of thousands of
foreigner students for which every foreigner student is thankful for bestowing
such a great opportunity in such a great educational institute. I don’t have
appropriate words to explain priceless feelings of staying in Yangzhou
University.
